The Discord application is a place that many users call home. People talk, make friends, and post memes all day long.

But Discord is also the home of trolls.

From time to time, you may see an abusive message pop-up on your feed. And before you can report it, it’ll be gone.

But, can you recover and view deleted messages?

If you are the admin of a server, a moderator or simply a concern user, here’s what you need to know about deleted messages:

  • Can you see all the deleted messages of a Discord Server?
  • How to see deleted messages on Discord?
  • Does the Discord Audit log show deleted messages?

Can You See All The Deleted Messages of A Discord Server?

In short, you could see deleted messages, but only if you took precautions to do so.

Discord doesn’t have a built-in feature to let you see deleted messages from a server.

Discord has stated on a tweet that:

“Deleted DMs are instantly wiped out from our servers…”

There is no default option on a server to see deleted messages.

However, many third-party apps and plugins are free to use that save all messages.

Note: If there is too much drama going on with deleted Discord messages, you might want to Delete a Discord Server.

You could also try to give the server to someone else with the server link.

How To See Deleted Messages On Discord?

Admins or server owners that want to see deleted messages on Discord need to employ the help of third-party apps and plugins, like Better Discord.

You’ll be able to see all deleted Discord messages after the app is installed.

But you won’t see a message that was deleted before the installation.

These apps were made to work with the Discord application, and were designed to enhance user experience.

You’ll need to be the owner of the server in order to install and use these options.

And don’t worry, they are not permanent.

You can un-install them from your Discord settings.

The following apps we mention are 100% safe to use.

If you download a bot from another site you do that at your own risk.

Here are the apps to teach you how to see deleted messages on Discord:

Try using the Better Discord App and MessageLogger V2

This is a plugin made for Discord.

It will keep track of edited messages, deleted Discord messages, and everything that happens on your server.

Better Discord also creates a data folder where it stores all the logs directly into your computer.

But to do so, you’ll need another plugin, MessageLogger V2.

To install it, you need to have Better Discord already on your computer, then:

  • Step 1: Open Discord.
  • Step 2: Go to user settings. You access it by clicking on the gear icon.
  • Step 3: On the many tabs, select Better Discord.
  • Step 4: Look for the plugins folder and click it.
  • Step 5: After downloading the Message Logger, drag it into the plugin folder.
  • Step 6: Enable the Logger by clicking on the “enable” button.

From now on, you’ll have a log of all the deleted Discord messages and edited messages. You can access said log from the plugins folder.

Try it out by deleting your own message, then use the search sign to look for it on the log.

Download Bots

Bots are plugins that help you moderate different aspects of a server.

They can help you keep track of new users and deleted messages on Discord.

The best bots are the Dyno bot and the YAGPBD bot.

Both of them are easy to use.

To download them, open any browser and search for them.

The install button is on the top menu.

Wait for them to install and edit their properties on the plugins tab.

Having a log is a great way to review any mean comment and report it to the server admin.

Remember that if you don’t comply with Discord’s terms, Discord may delete your Discord account without previous notice.

Also Read: If after reporting deleted discord messages you are still getting harassed, it may be time to leave the Discord server.

There is no need to stay in a place that doesn’t want you.

Other Ways To See Deleted Discord Messages

A simple but effective answer to the issue is screenshots.

If you are afraid that any other user might delete something, take a screenshot.

Additionally, you could go old school and copy-paste them on a notepad.

But keeping a log like this will be a pain, especially when you search for a specific reply, comment, or message to report.

Does The Discord Audit Log Shows Deleted Messages?

The audit log only shows the times and dates of the deleted messages.

But it doesn’t show the content of a deleted message.

You can see the date, message ID, and user ID of the poster, but nothing more than that.

Hopefully, the feature will be implemented on a future Discord version.

There are many viable options to see deleted messages on Discord.

However, most will ask you to be prepared for them.

Other users will delete messages on Discord without notice, so having a bot or a plugin ready to save it is your best bet.
